“The Secret of the Pendant” earns 4/5 Turquoise Mysteries…Fun! I started the Blooms, Bones, & Stones series with the fifth book, “The Secret of the Pendant,” and judging the book by its cover, I was very excited. However, there were a few typos, a couple of content errors, names not varied enough for my taste (Carlo? Carly? Corby?), and a third-person narrative I had to get used to. A better editor would have alleviated many of these issues making me wonder about the rest of the series, but a “The Secret of the Pendant” earns 4/5 Turquoise Mysteries…Fun! However, there were a few typos, a couple of content errors, names not varied enough for my taste (Carlo? Carly? Corby?), and a third-person narrative I had to get used to. A better editor would have alleviated many of these issues making me wonder about the rest of the series, but as for Olivia Swift, the author, my engagement with her mystery was the primary reason I didn't give up…it was worth it! Corby Santana, a character introduced into the group in book four, is still reeling from her life with, a now jailed, ex-husband. She continues to lack confidence and is reticent explore a more fulfilling relationship with childhood friend, Carlo Sanchez. Circumstances arise in which Corby inherits a property, some cash, and a very old necklace from a great-uncle whom she hadn't seen since she was a young girl. She only remembered him as a “nice man.” The property is a bit out of the way from the hustle and bustle of town, and the house needs some renovations, but she is still excited about this and her friends all agree to help. Fixing it up and selling it may be her best option. But, it is curious that in the will it mentions the property and necklace could only be inherited by the female bloodline in the family. Then there is the strange caretaker, the holes dug in the basement, things she discovers about her family, and the pendant that holds a strong power. Olivia Swift has a creative mind penning a delightful tale that I thoroughly enjoyed, and around a hundred pages, one can finish quickly. The mystery incorporated a clever legend of murder and treasure, revealing entertaining connections with the present, and a very, very “Oh, my!” ending. Used to longer novels, I missed some of the details, descriptions, and background into characters present and past. However, I recommend this book, and am personally eager to read the rest of the series. "Disclosure: I received an ARC, however my review is voluntary with honest comments and insights."

Corby Santana was very happy with her life and her job at the garden center where she was manager of the craft and quilting section. Corby was so shaken that her boss, Kim, took her into the office to sit down and open the envelope. She had inherited a house and a beautiful turquoise and silver pendant from her great-uncle and had to contact a local law firm for further details. Carlo Sanchez, a friend and former neighbor of Corby’s, went with her to the lawyer because he knew him and then drove them to the house. The house was in good condition, and one of the neighbors, who had startled them by being in the house when they arrived, had been paid by Corby’s uncle to cut the grass and do necessary maintenance since her uncle rented it out and lived 2 hours away. As Corby and Carlo looked around, they found someone had dug 6 holes in the basement flooring for some reason. Corby kept noticing her pendant getting warm. As they were leaving after their tour, they met another neighbor at the gate. She suggested changing the locks and flirted with Carlo. When they came back to change the locks and add some quilts and cushions, Carlo went into the basement and saw that someone had been digging again. Corby’s pendant also got warm. What was someone looking for? What would they do when they could no longer get past the new locks? And Corby also realized that maybe wanting Carlo around her was not just because he made her feel “safe”. Maybe it was another reason altogether? I just love the mystery the author gives to us in this book! The characters are so well developed that they feel like old friends! The suspense in the story line is perfect, as we know that Corby’s ex-husband, although in jail, still has a desire to harm her. And we also know something is going on in the house with all the holes dug in the basement. And for paranormal lovers, the pendant obviously has power of some kind! Watch it all come together in this fun book! You don’t want to miss this one!

One day, two lawyers show up in the shop and tell her that she has inherited a house from her uncle, one that hasn't been in her life for a long time and was determined to leave the house and a pendant in the hands of a woman of the family. When Corby went there to check out the place things get weird, the pendant will start getting hot and someone has been digging her cellar floor.   This is the fifth installment in a series and I haven't read any of the previous ones but I found it easy to read, not being lost and picking up on details from other books quite easily.  I liked Corby a lot, I could connect with her. Seemed like she had a very hard past and life and now she is trying to let herself loose and enjoy what she has accomplished, the friends she has gained and the freedom she has. I felt sorry for her because her husband had really hurt her and she couldn't go into her own house without feeling a little fear. I enjoyed reading the relationship that ignited with Carlo, and how well matched were for each other. I also like the friendships that were portrait and how everyone supported each other.  Though I liked the plot I found it that everything was going too fast and that the great mystery behind everything was solved in just two seconds. In addition, I could see the final coming miles ahead, as the author did give away a detail that made me suspect that this was going to happen. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it and wanted to know what was going to happen.  Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of the writing style. There was a lot of silence dialogue, as the characters would talk to each other but instead of in a dialogue the author would explain the conversation. I don't know if I make it clear but it was a bit awkward.

Corby Santana thought that life was finally beginning to look better when she met and started working with Kim in the garden centre. Having survived an abusive husband, she did not think that things would get much better, but she was content to start again and live and work quietly amongst the new friends that she had made. But that was until 2 men in suits turned up at her work with an official looking letter from a lawyer, which really frightened Corby. But that was until 2 men in suits turned up at her work with an official looking letter from a lawyer, which really frightened Corby. But it turned out to be a nice surprise for she had inherited a house from her grand uncle, a kindly man who she had not seen for many years. Corby and her friends decide to clean it up with a possibility of selling it as it was too far out of town for her to live in but there were other interested parties who thought that the old rumour that there was gold hidden in the house was true and they were prepared to stop at nothing to get it. Another fun mystery from Olivia Swift who has written several books about this group of friends. Each one is a standalone but it helps to have read the others for a fuller picture of the other characters in the group. I find it a nice visit with familiar friends.

Loved this one. Was very interesting. Corby got an inheritance from her great uncle that included a pendant and a house and some money. She started wearing the pendant necklace right away and noticed that it got warm when she was near things that she should be noticing. I received a free copy of this book and am writing a voluntary review. The Premise of this book seems interesting and that's what drew me to read it. I have to say, it has all the elements that you would require of a mystery and even a bit of romance. But to be quite honest I didn't get into the book like I usually do. I found the writing style choppy or halting, there wasn't really a good flow to the storyline. I also had difficulty engaging with the characters and the story. Corby, the quilt lady at the garden store, has a good surprise. She has received an inheritance that includes a pendant. The pendant has some mystical properties and Corby needs to discover it's background. I really enjoyed the book. It's a quick read and is book 5 in the Blooms, Bones and Stones Cozy Mystery series. I love the characters in this series and am always glad to hear more from them.

I was interested in this book from the first page. I love cozy mysteries and this one also includes a touch of the paranormal. When you add in a sweet romance you have a great read! I really enjoyed the way the characters and the storyline were developed. I loved the twists and turns in the plot right up to the happily ever after ending. I loved this author's writing style and will be looking for more from her.

Corby Santana surprisingly inherited a house from her great uncle that she hasn't seen since she was a little girl. Along with the house and a bit of money she received a turquoise pendant. She soon discovered while exploring her new inheritance that the pendant had some powers. As strange people had been around the house stranger things happened. I was delighted with this story and the love of the characters were a breath of fresh air! Would highly recommend this read!

This book was better than I expected. An abused woman ,whose ex husband is in jail, is trying to start life over again. Her late great uncle dies leaving her a house and a pendant that is only to be passed down through the femal line. Along with the house comes a mystery that she is suppose to solve. While trying to get her “new” life together she reconnects with an old friend when sparks fly. This was a really good book. I would recommend this author and this book.

Great story. Carly is such a strong and wonderful character. In fact, I loved all the characters in the book, except for the criminals of course. The plot was imaginative and well written. Will be adding Olivia Swift to my reading list. Really enjoyed this book and hope there will be more to come in the near future.

This is such a fantastic mystery! I love how well presented the story is, how the characters are so perfectly portrayed and it's so easy to feel like we already know them. There is a paranormal angle, too, and that makes it even better. A marvellous book, wholeheartedly recommended.

This book was a really fast read for me. Great mystery, easy to read and fun. Really well developed characters, they are all friends and are supportive of each other. Felt like I missed something is the beginning of the book, wondering if this is the first in a series. I have to admit that I was expecting a big long tale about the secret of the pendant. I received this book as am ARC and this is my honest and freely given review.
